Tough, wear-resistant nylon for functional 3D printed parts
eSUN PA Filament is a high-performance nylon 3D printing filament developed from a PA6/66 copolymer for functional parts that need toughness, impact resistance, wear resistance and reliable mechanical performance. Also commonly referred to as eSUN ePA Nylon, this 1.75mm filament is supplied on a 1kg spool and is available in Clear/Natural.
Unlike standard PLA and PETG, nylon is designed for applications where durability, flexibility and resistance to repeated mechanical use are more important than simple ease of printing. eSUN PA is particularly well suited to gears, brackets, bushings, mechanical components, fixtures, functional prototypes and other parts that experience impact, friction or repeated movement.
High toughness and impact resistance
eSUN PA is formulated to produce strong, durable parts with high resistance to fracture. eSUN reports elongation at break of up to approximately 175%, highlighting the material's toughness compared with more rigid but brittle 3D printing materials.
This makes PA nylon a practical choice for functional components that need to absorb impacts or tolerate some flex rather than snapping under load. Its mechanical properties also make it useful for prototypes intended to replicate the behaviour of injection-moulded nylon components.
Self-lubricating and wear-resistant
One of the major advantages of nylon filament is its suitability for moving and contacting parts. eSUN PA has self-lubricating and wear-resistant characteristics that make it particularly useful for gears, bearings, bushings, rollers and other components where friction is a consideration.
For mechanical projects, this can make PA a better material choice than PLA when the printed part will experience repeated movement or contact with another component.
Lower shrinkage for a nylon filament
Nylon can be challenging to print because of its tendency to absorb moisture and, depending on the formulation, warp during cooling. eSUN's PA formulation is designed with lower shrinkage to help reduce warping and cracking while maintaining strong layer adhesion.
The material still benefits substantially from an enclosed printing environment, especially for larger functional parts.

The material's combination of toughness, wear resistance and flexibility makes it particularly useful when a printed component needs to perform a job rather than simply look good.
Printing eSUN PA Nylon
Nylon is significantly more moisture-sensitive than common materials such as PLA and PETG. Drying is not optional if you want consistent results.
eSUN recommends drying PA filament at 70°C for more than 12 hours before printing. The filament should then be kept dry during printing and stored in a sealed, low-humidity environment between uses. eSUN specifically recommends using a filament dryer such as the eBOX when printing PA.
For best results, use a heated bed and an enclosed or well-controlled print environment. eSUN's current recommended starting parameters are 250–290°C nozzle temperature, 70–90°C bed temperature and 0% cooling fan, with the exact settings adjusted for the printer, nozzle, model and desired results.
Clear/Natural PA filament
The Clear/Natural colour has a translucent natural appearance rather than the opaque appearance of most coloured nylon filaments. This makes it useful when the natural colour of the polymer is preferred or when the finished component will be painted, dyed or otherwise finished after printing.
A practical nylon upgrade from PLA and PETG
If a PLA or PETG part is failing because of impact, repeated flexing, friction or wear, eSUN PA is a material worth considering. It occupies a different part of the performance spectrum from everyday desktop filaments and is better suited to mechanical applications where toughness and durability matter.
Nylon does require more preparation than PLA or PETG, particularly when it comes to moisture control and bed adhesion. When properly dried and printed under appropriate conditions, however, eSUN PA provides a versatile engineering-grade material for functional FDM/FFF 3D printing.
Compatibility
eSUN PA 1.75mm filament is compatible with FDM/FFF 3D printers that can accept 1.75mm filament and meet the material's temperature requirements.
A printer should have a hotend capable of reaching approximately 250–290°C and a heated build platform capable of approximately 70–90°C. An enclosed chamber is recommended, particularly for larger parts where temperature differences can contribute to warping or layer cracking.
Because PA is abrasive only when reinforced with fibres, standard eSUN PA does not require a hardened nozzle solely because it is nylon. A standard brass nozzle can generally be used, provided it is compatible with the printer and material temperatures. Hardened nozzles become important when moving to reinforced materials such as PA-CF or PA-GF.
This filament is not the same material as PA12, PA-CF or PA-GF. eSUN PA is a PA6/66 copolymer and should be selected when the properties of standard, unfilled nylon are appropriate for the application.
