Modix
Modix3D Big Meter V4 3D Printer Kit (1010x1010x1010mm)
Large-format 3D printer kit for one-metre-scale parts
The Modix3D Big Meter V4 is a large-format 3D printer kit built for producing parts up to 1,010 x 1,010 x 1,010 mm. It combines a one-metre cubic build volume with Generation 4 hardware updates, automated calibration routines, and enclosure improvements aimed at more consistent operation on oversized prints.
This printer ships as a self-assembly kit unless assembly service is selected. The platform is designed for users who need industrial-scale part size in a desktop-manufacturing workflow, while retaining access to maintenance areas, front controls, and modern motion-control hardware.
Generation 4 enclosure and design improvements
The Generation 4 revision introduces a refreshed design along with a more capable enclosure. The updated enclosure improves access, sealing, and visibility during printing and maintenance.
- Pneumatic top lid
- Rear maintenance opening hatch
- Sturdy door hinges
- Door and lid sealing strips
- Improved internal LED lighting
IDEX dual printing add-on for soluble supports and advanced geometry
An optional IDEX dual printing add-on is available for all Generation 4 printers. IDEX means independent dual extruder, where each extruder is controlled separately and the inactive extruder is parked outside the print area while the active extruder prints.
This configuration makes advanced models with internal geometries easier to produce by allowing the use of water-soluble filament for support structures.
What the IDEX add-on includes
- Secondary printing subsystem: Griffin print head, clog detector, PTFE, and spool mount
- Motion system: secondary Y-axis motor with required components including belts and pulleys
- Metal brackets for both Y axis and print heads
- Wires, drag chains, and optical end-stops
Automated calibration for large-format printing accuracy
The Big Meter V4 includes the Duex 5 electronic expansion board as part of the Generation 4 platform. With a dedicated stepper motor driver assigned to each Z and X-axis motor, the printer supports a full set of automated calibration routines across the machine.
- Automated bed tilt calibration
- Automatic bed levelling with 100 probing points
- Gantry alignment
- Z offset calibration
The printer also uses four X-Z axis motors controlled individually to support automatic bed tilt calibration. These functions are especially useful on a printer with a one-metre build volume, where alignment and repeatability have a larger effect on part quality.
Higher print speed with upgraded motion hardware
Generation 4 Modix printers are built to print faster than earlier versions. The system supports travel speeds of up to 350 mm/s and high-quality printing at 100 mm/s, with higher speeds available for draft-quality output.
These speed gains come from stronger NEMA 23 motors on the X-axis instead of NEMA-17 motors. Weight on the Y axis has also been reduced by splitting the weight of one motor into two independent ones using the IDEX setup.
Emergency stop and more accessible front controls
The Modix3D Big Meter V4 is equipped with an emergency stop button that resets the Duet controller and stops printing immediately. This provides a direct hardware-level response when a print needs to be halted without delay.
The taller Big Meter platform also includes several accessibility-focused features by default:
- Tilt screen – mounted on an articulated arm for easier viewing and control access at different working heights, and useful during calibration when observing print head behaviour
- Frontal secondary power switch – convenient when the printer is installed in a tight corner or between other equipment
- Large secondary reset button – improves access to the reset control
Improved Z axis stability and end-stop accuracy
Generation 4 Modix printers use stronger NEMA-23 motors and CNC-machined brackets on the Z axis. This construction holds the bed more firmly and supports a higher level of accuracy.
End-stop switches have also been upgraded to optical switches across Generation 4 printers. Optical end-stops provide improved accuracy and repeatability over time, which is particularly important for job recovery after a power outage.
Improved PTFE tube routing for reduced friction
The Generation 4 platform improves PTFE management by routing the PTFE tube through a roller guide. Keeping the tube in a more relaxed position helps reduce friction inside the tube.
Where the Big Meter V4 fits best
The Modix3D Big Meter V4 suits users producing large prototypes, full-size mock-ups, oversized functional parts, fixtures, moulds, props, and educational or engineering components that benefit from one-piece printing. The large enclosed format, automated calibration functions, and accessible front controls also make the printer practical for workshops, print farms, prototyping labs, and fabrication environments handling frequent large-scale jobs.
For users who need support-friendly dual-material workflows, the optional IDEX add-on expands the machine for more complex internal geometries and soluble-support applications.
