What this direct drive extruder does

The Micro Swiss Direct Drive Extruder is a drop-in extruder upgrade for Creality CR-10 and Ender printers that delivers a shorter filament path and more precise extrusion control. The design is intended to install without printer modification, making it a plug-and-play conversion for supported machines.

This extruder-only kit is built to improve filament feeding consistency, simplify filament loading, and make flexible materials easier to print at high speed and with better accuracy.

Key features for extrusion control and flexible filament printing

  • Dual-drive train: Drives filament more positively for controlled feeding.
  • Hardened tool steel gears: Built with CNC precision cut gears for durable, accurate filament engagement.
  • Adjustable filament grip: Lets you tune grip pressure to suit different materials.
  • Easy filament loading: Simplifies material changes and setup.
  • Short, highly constrained filament path: Reduces room for filament buckling and supports better handling of flexible filaments.
  • High-speed flexible filament capability: Designed to print flexible materials with high speed and accuracy.
  • Outstanding extrusion control: Helps maintain more consistent material delivery.
  • Lightweight aluminum body: Uses an aluminum body to keep the assembly light.

What is included in the extruder-only kit

The package includes the main hardware needed for the extruder assembly: main extruder body, extruder lever, spring pin, spring, gears, knob, shoulder pin, bolts, lock nut, washer, extension cable, motor mounting screws, nuts, zip ties, printed bracket, and a beveled Capricorn liner.

Stepper motor and roller wheels are not included.

Where this extruder upgrade fits best

This direct drive setup is suited to CR-10 and Ender users who want a more controlled filament path for everyday printing and flexible material use. The constrained path and adjustable grip are especially useful when printing softer filaments that can be difficult to manage in longer Bowden-style feeding paths.

The plug-and-play format also makes the Micro Swiss extruder a practical option for users who want a direct drive conversion without modifying the printer or adding printed mounting parts.

Important installation and slicer notes

Creality has recently updated the extruder stepper motor on some machines. Before ordering, check the extruder stepper motor gear. If the gear is pressed in, a new stepper motor will be required to complete installation.

After installing the Micro Swiss Direct Drive, slicer retraction settings must be changed. For Ender 3 series, retraction should be 1.5-2mm at 50mm/s. For CR-10 series, retraction should be 2.0-2.5mm at 50mm/s.

Do not exceed 3.0mm retraction distance. If retraction remains at 5.0-6.5mm, hot filament can be pulled into the heat break, harden when it reaches the cold side, and cause a jam.
